Alexandre-Charles Cardinal Renard (born June 7, 1906 in Avelin , France , † October 8, 1983 in Paris ) was Archbishop of Lyon and Primate of France.

Life

Alexandre Renard studied in Lille the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on 12 July 1931, the sacrament of the priesthood and worked after completing further studies on 1933 as a lecturer in Baraeul , Haubourdin and Lille. During his time as a university professor in Lille, he was also active as a parish chaplain from 1938 to 1947.

In 1953 Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of Versailles . He was ordained bishop on October 19, 1953 by Achille Cardinal Liénart , co-consecrators were Bishop Stanislas Courbe, titular bishop of Castoria and Bishop Alfred-Jean-Félix Ancel, titular bishop Bishop of Myrina. Alexandre-Charles Renard attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 .
