Alexandria is a city in Campbell County in the US state of Kentucky , which on the main road 27 just eight miles south of Newport is located. According to the population census of 2000, 8,286 inhabitants lived in the city. The small town is also the county seat of Campbell County.

The city is at 38 ° 57'32 "North, and 84 ° 23'21" West. (38.958947, -84.389290). The city extends over an area of 14.1 km² , 13.9 km² of which is land and 0.1 km² is water.
history
The area was settled by a family named Spillman from 1793 and was given its own post office in 1819. The city probably got its name from its older model Alexandria in Virginia . The place has had town charter since 1834. In 1840 Alexandria was chosen as the new county seat of Campbell Country because of its central location . It required a special court order and a visit from the sheriff before the move from Newport to Alexandria could take place.
