Alexandru Cicâldău (born July 8, 1997 in Medgidia ) is a Romanian football player who has been under contract with FC Universitatea Craiova since July 2018 . The midfielder has been a Romanian international since March 2018 .

Cicâldău began playing football at the age of eight and moved to the well-known youth academy of Gheorghe Hagi , the youth department of Hagi's club FC Viitorul Constanța , at the age of 13 . In spring 2016 he was promoted to the first team. On March 31, 2016 (4th matchday) he made his debut in the top Romanian league in the 1-1 draw against ASA Târgu Mureș when he came on for Ianis Hagi in the 79th minute . In this 2015/16 season he played another assignment. In the next season of 2016/17 he played seven league games and won the league with his team. Cicâldău succeeded in the following season 2017/18 , he established himself as a regular at Viitorul. On April 28th (7th matchday of the championship round) he scored in a 3-3 draw against FC Universitatea Craiova for the first time for his club. During this season he made 34 appearances in League I.

On July 6, 2018, Alexandru Cicâldău moved to league rivals FC Universitatea Craiova , where he signed a four-year contract. The media named sums of between 750,000 and one million euros as transfer fees. In the game for the Supercupa României he made his debut for his new club. The game ended in a 1-0 defeat. He started the 2018/19 league season with seven assists in the first eleven games and got off to a good start on October 26 (matchday 13) with his first goal in the 3-0 away win against Astra Giurgiu . He netted four times this season and prepared seven goals.

National team

He played an international match for the Romanian U18 national team in March 2015. From November 2015 to March 2016 he made six appearances for the U19s .

From March 2017 to June 2019 he played 15 international matches for the Romanian U21 team , in which he scored two goals. The U21 European Championship 2019 in Italy and San Marino , which was used in all four games, marked the end of his underground career .

In March 2018 he received his first nomination for the A selection from head coach Cosmin Contra . On March 24, he made his debut in a 2-1 win in the friendly international match against Israel when he was substituted on for Răzvan Marin in the closing stages .
