Alexandru "Sandu" "Bulgarul" Custov (also Custof and Custoff ) (born May 8, 1954 in Fundeni , Ilfov district , today Călărași district ; † March 20, 2008 ibid) was a Romanian football player . He completed 336 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .
Career
Custov began playing football in 1968 at Gloria Fundeni , from where he moved to the youth division of Dinamo Bucharest after a year . In the 1971-72 season he made his debut in the match against Dinamo on May 4, 1972 Farul Constanta in the Divizia A . By 1984 Custov played 319 first division games for Dinamo Bucharest, making him the player with the second most games after Cornel Dinu in the club's history. During this time he was able to win five championship titles and two cup wins. Custov was part of the successful Dinamo team that knocked out Inter Milan in the 1981/82 UEFA Cup and qualified for the semi-finals of the 1983/84 European Cup. In 1984 he moved to Dinamos satellite club AS Victoria Bucharest , for which he ran up until 1986. In the first half of the 1986/87 season he played with Gloria Buzau and ended his career after the second half of the season , which he had spent with the second division Mecanica Fină Bucharest . In total, Custov came to 336 games in Divizia A, in which he scored 29 goals. In addition, there were another 30 European Cup games in which he scored three times. After the end of his career and after two divorces, the first lieutenant of the Romanian militia withdrew from Bucharest to his home village of Fundeni, where he died on March 20, 2008 as a result of his diabetes and thrombophlebitis .
National team
Custov played two games for the Romanian national soccer team . He was substituted on both times and never scored a goal. He made his debut on August 18, 1982 against Japan and after the qualifier for the European Football Championship 1984 on September 8, 1982 against Sweden , his international career was over. Furthermore, Custov had scored one goal in seven games of the U21 national team and one goal in three games of the U23 national team.
