Nicolae left Buzau and moved to FC Olt Scorniceşti , the club from the hometown of Nicolae Ceauşescus . Here, too, he became a regular player and with FC Olt in the 1981/82 season, finishing fourth, only just barely missed the UEFA Cup .

In the second half of the 1980s, the club dominated Romanian football together with Steaua Bucharest , but as runner-up they always lagged behind their rivals.

There he only came to three missions before the club was dissolved by the new government in January 1990 after the Romanian revolution . Nicolae returned to Dinamo and celebrated his third championship . When his club won the cup again , he was no longer used. He ended his career in the summer of 1991.
