Alexei Dmitrievich Speransky

Alexei Dmitrievich Speransky ( Russian Алексей Дмитриевич Сперанский , scientific transliteration. Alexei Dmitrievič Speranskij ; often Speransky * December 30, 1887 . Jul / 11. January  1888 greg. In Urzhum ( Vyatka Governorate ); † 23. July 1961 in Moscow ) was a Russian experimental pathologist known for his CSF pump theory. Speranski experimented on dogs . The "Speransky liquor pump", a lumbar puncture with multiple aspiration and suction of spinal cord fluid , was tested in the 1950s as a treatment method for rheumatic diseases and schizophrenia. This method is abandoned today.

Life

Born in the small town of Urzhum, Speransky graduated from the Medical Faculty of Kazan University in 1911 . In 1920 he became a professor of the chair for operative surgery at the recently founded University of Irkutsk . From 1923 to 1928, Speransky worked as an assistant to Ivan Pavlov in Leningrad . From 1926 he organized and headed an experimental department at the Institute for Surgical Neuropathology. From 1928, Speranski headed departments at the Leningrad Institute for Experimental Medicine, before moving to the Moscow All Union Institute for Experimental Medicine in 1934 . In 1945 he was appointed director of the Institute of General and Experimental Pathology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, in 1954, after the reorganization of the institute, he was appointed head of the Department of General Pathology.

Alexei Speransky was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . He was awarded two orders of Lenin and in 1943 the Stalin Prize, 2nd class.

Speransky is buried in the Vagankovo ​​Cemetery in Moscow.
