Urschum ( Russian Уржум ) is a city in Kirov Oblast in Russia . It has 10,213 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) and is 195 km south of the regional capital Kirov .
history
Originally there were Mari settlements on the site of Urshum . In 1584 the place was founded as a Russian fortress, which was named Urschum after the river Urschumka. Thanks to the location of the place between Siberia and European Russia, trade flourished there. In 1796 Urschum received city status. In the 19th century, several churches and other historical buildings were built there, some of which have been preserved until today, and industry developed in the district.

economy
Urschum is still an important center of agriculture today. There are also several industrial companies for wood processing, food and building materials in the city.
