Wjatskije Polyany ( Russian Вятские Поляны ) is a city in the Kirov Oblast ( Russia ) with 35,162 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 280 km southeast of the Oblast capital Kirov on the Vyatka , a right tributary of the Kama .
Wjatskije Polyany is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast as an urban district and at the same time the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
history
Already in the mid-16th century existed in place of the present town of the Udmurt village Oschtorma-Bodnja . The Russian village Vyatskiye Polyany (Russian for Wjatka- clearings ) was built around 1596, founded Russian Orthodox Rozhdestvensky Monastery , which existed until the 1764th
In 1938 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1942 city rights.
