Prince Alexei Fedorovich Orlov ( Russian Алексей Фёдорович Орлов , scientific. Transliteration Aleksej Fedorovic Orlov , October 8 * . Jul / 19th October  1786 greg. In Moscow , † May 9 jul. / 21st May  1861 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a general in the Russian army and statesman.

Alexei Fyodorovich Orlov was the son of Fyodor Orlov , younger brother of Grigory Orlov . His only son, Nikolai Orlov , was born in 1820.

He distinguished himself in the French wars from, was adjutant of the Grand Duke Constantine , then colonel and commander of the Guards Regiment on horseback. On December 26, 1825, his presence of mind did much to dampen the revolt of the guards , whereupon he was elevated to the rank of count, appointed adjutant general and command of a cavalry division, at whose head he distinguished himself in the Turkish campaign of 1828.

After he had signed the Adrianople Peace Treaty on September 14, 1829 , he went to Constantinople as Ambassador Extraordinary . In 1833 he reappeared in Constantinople as commander in chief of the Russian troops that had landed on the Bosporus and persuaded the sultan to sign the Treaty of Hünkâr İskelesi . Soon afterwards he became a general of the cavalry and a member of the Imperial Council , and in 1844 he was given the command of the gendarme corps and the management of the secret police .

He accompanied Tsar Nicholas on all his travels. His mission to Vienna in 1854 to win Austria over to Russian politics was unsuccessful. At the Peace Congress in Paris in 1856 he worked successfully as a Russian plenipotentiary, was then appointed President of the Imperial and Council of Ministers, and on September 7, 1856, was elevated to the rank of prince. After resigning the chairmanship of the Serfdom Committee , which had been given to him in 1858 , he died on May 21, 1861 in Petersburg.
