Alf Ragnar Sten Henrikson (born July 9, 1905 in Huskvarna ; † May 9, 1995 in Jönköpings län ) was a Swedish writer , poet , newspaper journalist and translator .

Life

Alf Henrikson was born in Huskvarna . In 1931 he married Ebba Alfrida Kristina Weck, who was two years his junior. With this he got his son Kjell Alfred Stig in 1933. A little later, the couple moved to Södra Ängby to Villa Hasselbergsvägen 14 . The second son Lars Arvid was born there in 1938. Alf Henrikson lived in the villa until his death in 1995. He was buried on Huskvarna kyrkogård .

Career

In 1927 Henrikson published his first volume of poetry with Jazzrytm .

His historical collections of essays and causeries are still particularly popular in retail . Hexicon , a lexicon about myths and legends, has been reissued again and again since 1981. In the 1940s and 1950s Henrikson often worked with the illustrators Birger Lundquist and Björn Berg ; both were colleagues from Henrikson at Dagens Nyheter . Many of their joint books were compiled from articles or poems that had first appeared in the newspaper.

In 1949 Henrikson wrote the youth novel Vägen genom A ( Journey through A ), which contains 137 drawings by Birger Lundquist and was published in 1951 in the German translation by Elly Petersen and Carola von Crailsheim . In 1998, a sculpture by Alf Henrikson was erected on Alf Henriksonplatsen in Huskvarna , bearing the title of the novel. The sculpture consists of two parts. One part shows Alf Henrikson and the other a capital A. The sculpture was made by Thomas Qvarsebo .

Arne Ljusberg composed music for some of Henrikson's poems. The songs appeared on the album Arne Ljusberg föredrar Alf Henrikson .

Henrikson wrote articles and poetry for the newspapers Dagens Nyheter , Vecko-Journalen and Månadsjournalen , among others . In addition to many poems, Henrikson has translated lyrics and opera libretto, including Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff for Värmland's Musiktheater (1993), as well as Jacques Offenbach's Hoffmanns Erzählungen (1990) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (1968) for the Royal Opera . This translation was used in the film Die Zauberflöte by Ingmar Bergman and at the Stora Teatern in Gothenburg in 1980. Henrikson has translated texts from English, Chinese and German into Swedish, including works by James Fenimore Cooper , Arthur Koestler , Charles Dickens and Emanuel Schikaneder .

At the age of nearly 80, Henrikson wrote an A – Ö. En uppslagsbok ("A to Ö. A reference work") has its own encyclopedia with almost 1,800 pages.
