Alfons Lauer (born August 2, 1957 in Beckingen ; † January 21, 2015 in Saarbrücken ) was a German lawyer and local politician of the SPD . Between 1994 and 2013 he was Lord Mayor of Merzig .

Life

Lauer attended the Beckingen elementary school and the secondary school in Dillingen / Saar . After graduating from high school, he studied law. After completing his studies, Lauer initially worked as a judge at the Saarbrücken district court . In 1989 he became a member of the SPD, and in 1991 he moved to the Saarland State Chancellery as head of the department for media law and finance . At the same time he obtained his doctorate in 1992. jur. Lauer later took over the management of the Saarland forest administration in the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 1994 he was elected Lord Mayor of Merzig and was confirmed in office twice in a direct election. On January 1, 2014, he became President of the Saar Association of Savings Banks . During his time as Lord Mayor of Merzig, Lauer was President of the Saarland City and Municipal Association, a member of the main committee of the German City Council and was Deputy Chairman of the SPD in Saarland between 2000 and 2013 .

Lauer was found dead in his apartment on January 21, 2015. He was married and had three children.
