Alfonso Sozy Carafa

Alfonso Sozy Carafa CRS (born March 7, 1704 in San Nicola Manfredi ; † February 19, 1783 ; also Alfonso Sozi Carafa ) was an Italian clergyman and bishop of Lecce .

Life

He was the son of Nicolò Sozy Carafa and his wife Anna Merenda from the family of the Signori of San Nicola Manfredi. Alfonso Sozy Carafa was ordained a priest on June 7, 1727 .

Pope Benedict XIV appointed him Bishop of Vico Equense on July 15, 1743 . He was ordained bishop on July 25th of the same year in Rome by the Archbishop of Conza , Giuseppe De Nicolai ; Co- consecrators were Luigi Savageri , Bishop of Alatri , and Scipione De Laurentiis , Bishop of Larino . Alfonso Sozy Carafa was transferred to the episcopal see of Lecce on November 15, 1751. There he consecrated the new cathedral on November 6, 1757.

He was buried in the cathedral of Lecce.
