Alfred Geisel Jr. (born June 23, 1931 in Tübingen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). For 16 years he was Vice President of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg .

education and profession

Alfred Geisel Jr. is the son of the Reutlingen master tailor Alfred Geisel sen. Geisel studied law at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in law in 1960, and after passing the second state examination worked as a public prosecutor at the Ellwangen district court . From 1996 to 2008 he was chairman of the adult education center in Aalen and from 1996 to 2005 also the local workers' welfare .

Political activity

Geisel joined the SPD in 1965. He was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament from 1972 to 1996 . He was always elected with a second mandate in the Aalen state electoral district. From 1980 until he left the state parliament, he was its vice-president. From 1993 to 2003 he was chairman of the working group of social democratic senior citizens in Baden-Württemberg . Until the end of 2001, Geisel also belonged to the district council of the Ostalb district . Geisel's son Thomas Geisel was elected Lord Mayor of Düsseldorf on June 15, 2014 .

honors and awards

In 1991, Geisel was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit. In protest against the tough stance of the Baden-Württemberg state government in the matter of Stuttgart 21 , he returned the award in October 2010. On October 1st, 2008 he was awarded the Great Plaque of Honor of the City of Aalen in silver.
