Life

Alfred Gysi was born on August 31, 1865 in Aarau as the son of the drawing material manufacturer and photographer Arnold Gysi and Anna Henriette, née Studler. After attending the Polygymnasium and the industrial school in Aarau, he began studying dentistry at the École Dentaire in Geneva in 1883 , which he continued in 1885 at the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery in Philadelphia , where he received his doctorate in 1887 . Act

Alfred Gysi researched the problems of lower jaw movements in relation to tooth shapes. To do this, he developed the first articulator and face bow , machines that mimicked the chewing movements of humans. This enabled him to construct individually adapted denture teeth that the patient could chew with.

In addition, Alfred Gysi wrote publications in the field of articulation and occlusion research . Alfred Gysi is counted among the most important representatives of Swiss and international scientific prosthetics in the first half of the 20th century .
