Alfred Hüffer

Alfred Hüffer (born August 5, 1818 in Münster , † August 23, 1899 in Paderborn ) was a German judge and politician. He was one of the co-founders of the Center Party .

Life

He was a son of the publisher and mayor Johann Hermann Hüffer .

He studied law in Bonn . Then he became a district judge in Wiedenbrück . From 1879 he was a district judge in Paderborn .

He was also active as a writer. In 1838 he was the publisher of the first volume of poetry by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .

In Paderborn in 1864 he was one of the founders of the Catholic-oriented citizens' association. Hüffer was a co-founder of the Center Party. He was a leading head of the Soest district , which met in 1864, 1865 and 1866 and from which the Center Party emerged in 1870 with the Soest program . In 1865 he formulated the considerations of founding a party that the participants would see themselves " in an open fight against the so-called Prussian traditions ". From their point of view, King Wilhelm I treaded the path of " an absolute, anti-German and Protestant Prussia ".

Between 1853 and 1855 and from 1870 to 1888 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .
