Alfred Längle

Alfred Längle (born August 16, 1948 in Rankweil , Vorarlberg ; † August 17, 2016 ) was an Austrian diplomat .

Life

Längle studied law and commercial science at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck . 1971 took place Promotion to Doctor iuris. In the following years, Alfred Längle was a university assistant at the Technical University of Vienna .

From 1978 to 1980 he worked in the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs . For the next three years, Längle worked for the Austrian Embassy in Algiers and from 1983 for the Austrian Mission to the European Communities in Brussels . After four years in Brussels, Alfred Längle returned to the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna. From 1991 to 1995 he was Deputy Head of the Permanent Representation of Austria to the Council of Europe and Austrian Consul General in Strasbourg . From 1995, Längle worked as the Austrian consul general in Cracow until he returned to the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1999. From 2005 to 2009 he was the Austrian ambassador to the Republic of Poland .

From September 25, 2009, Alfred Längle was the Austrian ambassador to Mexico . Since the Austrian embassy in Bogotá was closed in April 2012, he was also accredited to Panama as ambassador to Mexico . In February 2014, he was replaced by his successor Eva Hager in his office as ambassador to Mexico and retired, which he spent in Vienna. He received the Great Silver Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria .

Alfred Längle died on August 17, 2016 of severe cancer, leaving behind a wife and four children.
