Alfred Rembold

Alfred Rembold (born September 27, 1844 in Leutkirch ; † December 12, 1922 in Ravensburg ) was a German lawyer and politician of the Württemberg Center Party .

Life and work

Alfred Rembold attended the Latin and Realschule in Leutkirch and then the secondary school in Ulm . In 1863 he began to study law in Munich , which he continued in Heidelberg and completed in Tübingen . During his studies he became a member of the Corps Franconia Tübingen in 1863 . After passing the first higher judicial service examination in 1866 and passing the second higher judicial examination in 1867, he became a judicial assessor in the Württemberg judicial service at the higher district courts in Ehingen and Saulgau . From 1870 he worked as a lawyer in Ravensburg and later a board member of the Württemberg Lawyers' Association. From November 1890 he took part in the preparation of the first Württemberg Catholic Day, which took place in Ulm on December 8th and 9th, 1890 and whose first vice-president was Rembold.

Political activity

Rembold was a member of the city council of Ravensburg for almost 40 years.

On July 11, 1894, Rembold, together with Adolf Gröber , Johann Baptist Kiene , Rudolf Probst and his brother Viktor Rembold, prepared the statutes that led to the founding congress of the Württemberg regional association of the German Center Party on January 17, 1895 in Ravensburg. There he was elected chairman of the new regional association, which he remained until January 1919. During his time as state chairman, Rembold put more emphasis on administrative activities. The political head of the Württemberg center was Adolf Gröber.

After winning the runoff election against the former center member Bruno Klaus , Alfred Rembold was a member of the Gmünd constituency from 1900 to 1918 in the second chamber of the Württemberg state parliament . From 1893 to 1903 he also had a seat in the Reichstag . There he represented the constituency of Württemberg 17 ( Ravensburg , Tettnang , Saulgau , Riedlingen ). In a replacement election on March 21, 1893, Rembold was elected to the Reichstag for the first time, in the main elections in 1893 and 1898 he received over 70% of the votes.

Family background

Alfred Rembold's father Franz Xaver Rembold (* 1813; † 1902) was a lawyer in Leutkirch and married to Maria Victoria Rembold, née Bauer (* 1824; † 1883). From this marriage came five children, including Alfred, his brothers Viktor and Sigmund. Viktor Rembold was also a lawyer and parliamentarian. Sigmund Rembold is known as the founder and director of the Marienhospital in Stuttgart .
