Johannes Baptist Kiene , from 1901 by Kiene , (also Johann Baptist Kiene or Hans von Kiene ; born January 22, 1852 in Langenargen , † July 24, 1919 in Wangen im Allgäu ) was a German lawyer and politician at the center .

Life

Johannes Kiene studied law at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . He became a member of the Catholic student union AV Guestfalia Tübingen in the CV . After continuing his studies in Freiburg im Breisgau, he also became a founding member of the KDStV Hercynia . He was promoted to Dr. jur. utr. PhD. After various positions as a judge, he came to Ravensburg in 1891 and in 1899 became President of the Württemberg Regional Court in Stuttgart .

On July 11, 1894, Johannes von Kiene, together with Rudolf Probst , Adolf Gröber and the brothers Alfred and Viktor Rembold (lawyers) , prepared the statutes that led to the founding congress of the Württemberg regional association of the German Center Party on January 17, 1895 in Ravensburg . Kiene was later with Eugen Graf and Josef Beyerle a leading representative of Catholic politics. From 1894 to 1918 Kiene was a member of parliament for Ehingen in the second chamber of the Württemberg state parliament . From 1919 until his death he also had a seat in the constituent assembly of the new people's state.

Johannes von Kiene was Minister of Justice under Prime Minister Wilhelm Blos in the first government of the Free People's State of Württemberg from November 11, 1918 to March 7, 1919 . Also in the second term of office of the SPD Prime Minister Wilhelm Blos (March 8, 1919 to June 1920) Johannes von Kiene was represented as Württemberg Minister of Justice. After his unexpected death on July 24, 1919, the 38-year-old magistrate Eugen Bolz succeeded him.

For his services, he was raised to the personal nobility status by King Wilhelm II of Württemberg in 1901 by awarding the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . Kiene was married to Anna Schneider. The marriage produced five children, including Maria Kiene (1889–1979), who later became a well-known child educator.
