Josef Beyerle

Ernst Josef Beyerle (born August 27, 1881 in Hohenstadt ; † June 2, 1963 in Stuttgart-Sillenbuch ) was a German lawyer and politician ( center , CDU ).

Life and work

Beyerle came as one of two children of the married couple Anton (1844–1925) and Maria Anna, geb. Schmid, (1851–1914) to the world. His father was a rent agent in the Graeflich-Adelmann administration.

After graduating from high school in Ehingen , Beyerle began studying law in Tübingen and Berlin , which he completed in 1904 with the first state examination and in 1908 with the second state examination . He then worked as a lawyer for two years . He joined the Württemberg judiciary in 1910 and was a judge at the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court from 1934 to 1945 . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student associations KStV Alamannia Tübingen , KStV Askania-Burgundia and KStV Guestphalia in Berlin in the KV .

Political party

During the German Empire and the Weimar Republic , Beyerle was a member of the Center Party , whose state chairman in Württemberg he was from 1919 until it was dissolved in 1933. After 1945 he participated in the founding of the CSVP , which later became the North Württemberg regional association of the CDU.

Public offices

From June 2, 1923 until the National Socialists came to power on March 11, 1933, Beyerle was Minister of Justice of Württemberg . He was also a member of the state parliament from 1924 to 1933 and from June 8, 1928 to January 19, 1930, Minister of Economics of Württemberg.

After the Second World War, Beyerle became Minister of Justice of Württemberg-Baden on September 24, 1945 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Reinhold Maier . As a member of the government from January to June 1946, he was also a member of the interim people's representation for Württemberg-Baden . As Minister of Justice, he took part in the Constitutional Convention on Herrenchiemsee .

After the election to the first state parliament of Württemberg-Baden, he was also a member of the new cabinet as Minister of Justice. In 1949 he also took over the post of Deputy Prime Minister. After the CDU's electoral defeat in the election for the second state parliament in 1950, the SPD formed a coalition government with the DVP ; Beyerle left the government.

Honors

On December 3, 1951, Beyerle was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit with the Star of the Federal Cross of Merit . In Weil der Stadt a street is named after Beyerle. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate .
