Alfred Saltzgeber

Alfred Saltzgeber (born April 9, 1872 in Strasbourg , † December 25, 1936 in Berlin ) was a German Catholic theologian . Saltzgeber was a city ​​councilor in Berlin from 1919 to 1927 and a member of the Prussian State Council for the Center Party from 1927 to 1930 .

Life

Saltzgeber attended high schools in Trier , Berlin and Hanover . From 1891 to 1893 he studied law at the University of Breslau . From 1893 to 1900 he completed a degree in theology and philosophy in Rome and obtained his doctorate in theology and doctorate in philosophy . In Rome he attended the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe and was ordained a priest there on October 28, 1899 .

At the end of August 1900 Saltzgeber became a chaplain in Ziegenhals in the Silesian district of Neisse . On September 1, 1902, he was appointed director of the Catholic Caritas Association for Berlin and its suburbs and was a member of the board of the Berlin Caritas Association until 1934. From 1906 he was a volunteer, since June 1, 1911 full-time prison chaplain in Berlin-Moabit , an office that he held until 1934. During the First World War he worked for the German Red Cross and as an accounting officer and pastor of the hospital train of the Westphalian Knights of Malta .

From 1919 to 1927 was a city councilor of Berlin. As such, he was elected Deputy Prussian State Council from February 1926 to January 25, 1927, to which he was a member for the Center Party from January 25, 1927 to January 1930. From 1927 to 1930 he was also a representative of the State Council in the Reich Debt Committee. Alfred Saltzgeber died on December 15, 1936, at the age of 64, in Berlin. For his services he was given the title of clergyman on December 9, 1931 .
