7 Days to Die is a Survival horror - computer game from the year 2013 for the PC and for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 .

    action

The events of the game take place after a nuclear World War III that destroyed much of the world. A few areas, such as the fictional county of Navezgane in Arizona , where the game is set, were not contaminated and destroyed.

The player is a survivor of the war who must ensure his survival by equipping himself and tracking down supplies in order to ward off the numerous zombies that populate the Navezgane.

While there is no real goal other than to survive, the developers hinted at a possible storyline to be added in future updates .

    Gameplay

The game is a survival horror game that is set in a post-apocalyptic randomly generated open world with several biomes and zombies and is played from the first person perspective (it can also be played with a third person in the SP). The aim of the player is to survive as long as possible and to build and discover things.

The player can explore the world, has to look for food and water, can collect objects ( loot ), produce objects ( crafting ) and, among other things, build dwellings and other things by using the voxel system. The player must also protect himself from the zombies by using the weapons from the game and making tools to continue working. Furthermore, it is possible for the player to build and use vehicles, go hunting and grow plants. Furthermore, the player can also accept quests .

It can be played in both single player and multiplayer modes . The game also has a creative mode, in which the focus is on building and therefore you get no damage from zombies and you can get unlimited items from a menu.

    Development and publication

On July 16, 2013, the developer The Fun Pimps launched a Kickstarter campaign with a set sum of $ 200,000 to finance the game. The campaign ended on August 18 of the same year and successfully raised $ 260,000. A day later, it was over $ 500,000. The game later appeared in Steam Greenlight , a platform for developers of the online distribution platform for computer games Steam .

In mid-October 2013, the game was banned from Steam Greenlight due to a copyright infringement . The reason for this was the allegation to have used assets from Tripwire Interactive .

Was first officially released the game on 13 December 2013 under the Steam - Early Access -Programms for the operating systems Microsoft Windows , Mac OS and Linux . By the beginning of April 2014, the game had sold over 250,000 times. A version for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was released on June 28, 2016 in North America and on July 1, 2016 in Europe . Telltale Games acts as the publisher . By May 2018, the PC version had been sold over 2.5 million times.

    reviews
    publication Rating
    Destructoid 3/10
    GameSpot 2/10
    IGN 4.9 / 10

The game received mixed reviews for the PC version ( Metascore : 45/100). However, the console version was largely rated negatively. In June 2017, the game was rated as very positive from a total of 35,000 user reviews on Steam and, although it is still in the alpha version, made it into the top 100 best-selling games on Steam.

The merging of different genres and game principles such as zombie shooter, survival horror , sandbox , role-playing game and tower defense as well as the exploration and development of the world and the experiences in multiplayer are praised .

The status of an unfinished game, which despite alpha status is already being marketed on consoles like a full-fledged game, the comparatively old-looking graphics and the parallels and overlaps to many already known games are criticized. Due to the block and crafting system, the game is often compared to Minecraft , so due to the zombie apocalypse theme it looks like a mixture of Minecraft and titles like DayZ or Left 4 Dead .
