Alfred Seifert (painter)
Alfred Seifert (born September 6, 1850 in Praskolesy in the Hořowitz district , † February 4, 1901 in Munich ) was a Czech-German portrait painter.
Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Hořowitz . Because of an illness, Seifert could not walk for the first four years and spent two years in an orthopedic hospital.
Even as a child he showed a talent for drawing. His first teachers were Professor Karl Würbs , the inspector of the picture gallery of the Society of Patriotic Art Friends in Bohemia, and landscape architect Alois Kirnig.
After two years at the grammar school in Prague's Lesser Town , Seifert began studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Sándor Wagner and Wilhelm Lindenschmit the Younger on May 14, 1870 . In 1876 he set up his own studio in Munich.
Seifert spent most of his life in Germany; in Bohemia he remained almost unknown. His works appeared in the illustrated magazine "Světozor" and also in the " Gartenlaube ".
Alfred Seifert was a member of the Bohemian Art Association Umělecká beseda , the Munich Art Association , the Munich Artists' Cooperative and the General German Art Cooperative .
