Alfredo Fernández Méndez Mayo (born April 22, 1943 in Madrid ) is a Spanish cameraman .

Live and act

The nephew of veteran actor Alfredo Mayo came straight from school at the age of 17 to film and learned his craft from scratch. His first job in 1960 was that of a camera intern in the production of " La corista ". Over the next 13 years, Mayo rose to become a simple cameraman via camera assistant . Mayo remained in this position until the late 1980s, when José Luis Alcaine became his most important teacher. As a simple cameraman, Alfredo F. Mayo was involved in the image design of numerous productions by Spain's top director Carlos Saura (“ Blindfolded”, “ Mama turns 100"," Go, Tempo "," Tender Hours "," Time of Illusions "), Luis García Berlanga (" La escopeta nacional "," Patrimonio nacional "," Nacional III "), Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón (" The heart of the forest ”,“ Maravillas ”,“ Pablo's Metamorphosis ”,“ Half of Heaven ”,“ Malaventura ”) and Pedro Almodóvar (“ Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown ”) . Mayo also stood behind the camera when camera colleague Teo Escamilla directed “Tú solo” (1984). At the same time, since 1973, Alfredo F. Mayo drew from time to time as chief cameraman. From 1989 he is only active in this function. Since then, the Spaniard, who sporadically also works for television and advertising, has been one of the leading visual designers of the new Spanish cinema.
