Alfredo Mayo

Alfredo Mayo (real Alfredo Fernández Martínez ; born May 17, 1911 in Barcelona , † May 19, 1985 in Palma ) was a Spanish actor .

Life

Mayo began studying medicine in his hometown, but dropped out after three years; then he completed his military service. Then he trained as an actor with Ernesto Vilches , got his first roles on stage and quickly in film. In 1936 he had his first leading role in Las tres gracias about the Portuguese poet Bocage .

During the Spanish Civil War he served in the Air Force. After the war ended, Mayo became the most popular Spanish screen star, making about 30 films in the decade to 1950. In the following decade he developed into a character actor who led to numerous films in European productions; v. a. in the heyday of genre cinema from 1960 to the mid-1970s. Mayo remained active until his death, where he was also seen in television series. His filmography includes almost 180 titles.
