Love is a Strange Game is a Spanish-German film romance from 1961. Directed by Rafael Gil and Hans Grimm , Marianne Hold and Vicente Parra , Germaine Damar and Horst Frank play the leading roles.

action

During a flight, two attractive young people get to know each other and quickly develop sympathy for one another. His name is Michael and he claims to be a musician (trumpet player). Her name is Veronika, she is Spanish and supposedly earns her living as a secretary. But both lie to each other, because in truth Michael is king of a small German monarchy and she is the niece of a billionaire duchess. The two quickly fall in love, but their young happiness is not a lucky star.

First, because His Majesty's ministers are urging the young monarch to finally find a bride of high aristocratic rank who is appropriate to his position, which is anything but easy. Second, something is brewing against the king: some revolutionaries, presumably including Veronika's brother Karl, are trying to overthrow the monarch. This makes the love between Michael and Veronika seem hopeless. But when it turns out that Karl had actually tried to protect King Michael from the overthrow, the future of the two royal children becomes clear. Veronika's father's billions will secure the future of the young monarch and strengthen his position, so that nothing stands in the way of Michael's marriage to Veronica, who is in keeping with her rank.

Reviews

Paimann's film lists summed up: “Love of monarchs, audiences, celebrations, revolts in a Spain in Bavarian ... naively prepared and presented in the same dramaturgical and directorial way. [...] The whole thing may be well received by a less critical family audience. "

"Elaborately equipped, but hopelessly outdated-looking snout."
