Matilde Muñoz Sampedro

Matilde Muñoz Sampedro (born March 2, 1900 in Madrid , † April 14, 1969 there ) was a Spanish actress . She began her career in the theater, from the mid-1950s she was also successful as a film actress and worked with well-known Spanish directors such as León Klimovsky , Ricardo Blasco and Agustín Navarro . In the 21st century she is remembered primarily as the ancestor of the actors Miguel , Carlos , Mónica and Javier Bardem .

Life

Matilde Muñoz Sampedro comes from a family of artists. Her sisters Mercedes Muñoz Sampedro and Guadalupe Muñoz Sampedro were actresses. In 1918, Matilde Muñoz Sampedro married her colleague Rafael Bardem, with whom she also stood in front of the camera. Matilde and Rafael Bardem are the ancestors of several well-known Spanish filmmakers. In 1922 their first child, son Juan Antonio Bardem († 2002) was born, who later worked as a director. In 1939 the daughter Pilar Bardem followed , who, like her mother, became an actress. The grandchildren Miguel , Carlos , Mónica and Javier also work in the film business.

Career

Matilde Muñoz Sampedro began her acting career as a stage actress like her two sisters Mercedes Muñoz Sampedro and Guadalupe Muñoz Sampedro. She took on theater roles at the age of eight. She made her film debut in the early 1950s at the age of 52. In the film Sor intrépida by Rafael Gil she played a small role alongside José Nieto and Francisco Rabal . From the mid-1950s she made numerous Spanish-language films and was also represented in several European co-productions. 1955 stood Matilde Muñoz Sampedro with her husband Rafael Bardem as well as Ángel Aranda and Antonio Ozores in Arturo Ruiz Castillo's comedy El guardián del paraíso in front of the camera. In the same year, her son Juan Antonio Bardem made his directorial debut with the film The Death of a Cyclist . Here, too, the actress took on a supporting role. The first work was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival . Directed by León Klimovsky , Matilde Muñoz Sampedro appeared alongside Carmen Sevilla and Francisco Rabal in the French - Spanish production Die Liebesmühle . In his film The Murder That Happened Twice , Matilde Muñoz Sampedro plays alongside Michèle Morgan , Dany Saval and Simón Andreu . In 1967 the actress stood in front of the camera for the US film The Secret of Death Island with Cameron Mitchell , George Martin and Rolf von Nauckhoff .

Matilde Muñoz Sampedro died in 1969 shortly after her 69th birthday. In her last film El último día de la guerra she took on a role again, directed by her son Juan Antonio. The film wasn't released until 1970 after the actress died.
