Alfredo Silva Santiago

Alfredo Silva Santiago (born September 8, 1894 in Santiago de Chile , † March 17, 1975 ibid) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Concepción .

Life

Alfredo Silva Santiago was ordained a priest on June 2, 1917 . Pius XI. appointed him Bishop of Temuco on February 23, 1935 and was instituted on June 1.

The apostolic nuncio in Chile , Ettore Felici , donated his episcopal ordination on April 28 of the same year; Co- consecrators were the former bishop of Temuco, Prudencio Contardo Ibarra CSsR and the bishop of Concepción, Gilberto Fuenzalida Guzmán .

The Pope appointed him Bishop of Concepción on February 4, 1939 and was appointed to office on March 22. Pius XII. elevated the diocese to an archbishopric on May 20, 1939 and Alfredo Silva Santiago became the archbishop. He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . John XXIII appointed him after his resignation as Archbishop of Concepción on April 27, 1963 titular Archbishop of Petra in Palestine . He resigned from this office on December 4, 1970.
