Alica Grofová

Alica Grofová (born April 2, 1952 in Vajnory ( Bratislava )) is a Czechoslovak table tennis player who won silver four times at European Championships in the 1970s. In 1973 she was also vice world champion in singles.

Career

Grofová started playing table tennis at the age of eight and was encouraged by her parents. At the age of 13 she took part in national games for the first time.

Alica Grofová achieved her first international success in her youth. In 1967 and 1968 she won the European Youth Championship with the team. In 1969 she reached the semi-finals in singles, in doubles with Ilona Voštová and in mixed with Milan Orlowski she won silver.

For adults, she took part in four world and four European championships from 1969 to 1976 . Here, too, she won several medals. At the World Cup in 1969 and 1971 , she was fourth with the team. In 1973 she was most successful at a World Cup. In singles she was second after losing to the Chinese Hu Yulan , in mixed with Josef Dvořáček she reached the semifinals.

She won silver four times at European championships: 1970 with the team, 1974 in doubles with Romanian Maria Alexandru and in mixed with Milan Orlowski , in 1976 in doubles with Dana Dubinová .

In 1971 she came third in the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 . At the beginning of 1973 she became student world champion in Hanover. In the ITTF world rankings , Alica Grofová was ranked third in December 1973.

After the European Championship in 1976 Grofová was excluded from the national selection due to differences with the coach and officials, in the official announcement a resignation was called at his own request. The following year she graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (FTVŠ) of the Comenius University in Bratislava . After she was unsuccessful with her request for a renewed appointment in the national selection for the European Championship 1978 , Grofová ended her active sporting career in the same year. After a 10-year break from table tennis, she returned to the green table as a youth coach. In 1992, due to the decline in the Slovak table tennis sport, Grofová committed himself to a change in association policy. A little later she left the association and founded an advertising agency.

Alica Grofová is married and has been called Chládeková since they were married .
