Aliens versus Predator is a three-part computer game series from the first-person shooter genre . First, the crossover - the science fiction film series Alien and Predator , which were initially separate - took place as a comic. There are now Hollywood movies and computer games with similar titles that continue the combination of the two.

Aliens versus Predator is a science fiction - first-person shooter from game developer Rebellion . It was officially released for PC and Mac in 1999. The game has been recognized by many gaming magazines for its high quality and replayability.

In the game you can choose to play through three campaigns as a human marine (space infantry), alien (extraterrestrial predator) or predator (extraterrestrial hunter). The weapons equipment and tasks in the game are correspondingly different. If you as a Predator are mainly on the hunt for aliens, you as a marine have to flee from the base, which is occupied by aliens.
Open source
The source code of the Gold Edition was published in 2001 with a non-commercial license of Rebellion's own because the support by the developers or the official distribution was discontinued. An unofficial porting for Linux was then carried out, with the help of the game files that can be purchased, the single player mode can be played.
Furthermore, the source code of the Windows version is maintained by the community to this day ( community patches ). In addition to numerous bug fixes, support for DirectX 9 and the free media formats Ogg Vorbis / Ogg Theora have been added . The game can therefore also be run under Windows Vista and Windows 7 .

Aliens versus Predator 2 was released towards the end of 2001 and was developed by the development studio Monolith Productions and distributed by Sierra Entertainment . In the German version, key elements of the game have been removed in order to be approved for young people.
Critics rated the game very good.

Just like in the first part, in the second part you can play three campaigns as a marine, alien or predator. In contrast to the first part, these are interlinked, i.e. H. what you experience as a Predator can later be observed as a marine and alien, since all three campaigns take place in the same place and almost at the same time.

The third part - similar to the first, simply aliens vs. Called Predator - was developed again from Rebellion. It was released by Sega for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and was released in February 2010. Sega does not want to publish any censored versions worldwide, which is why the third part of the series did not appear in Germany and was indexed on List B due to the high level of violence ( finishing moves ) . Compared to its predecessors, the third part received rather mixed reviews. The metascore is 68.
With this part, a direct connection to the films was made for the first time. For example, actor Lance Henriksen took up his role as the bishop again, whom he played in the films Aliens - The Return , Alien 3 and Alien vs. Predator played. In addition, the idea of the underground pyramids as cult sites and hunting arenas of the Predators from the film Alien vs. Predator picked up again.
