detail

The Allée couverte by Kernic (also called Allée couverte by Guinirvit or Porz Meur ) is located in the commune of Plouescat in the Finistère department in Brittany in France . On the north beach of the Anse de Kernic bay is the relatively well-preserved megalithic complex made of granite slabs with an edging that has been preserved except for its east side.

description

The slightly trapezoid chamber of the passage grave is about nine meters long. The approximately three meter long anteroom is separated from the chamber by a plate. The chamber remains consist of 11 lateral supporting stones, plus nine supporting stone remains and parts of the enclosure. In front of the entrance there are traces of an open space of 8.0 × 4.0 meters, which served as a cult site. During the excavation in 1983, after sea erosion, flint blades and ceramics from the late phase of use of the facility around 2000 BC were found. Chr.

context

The north coast of Finistère is rich in outstanding prehistoric monuments. The huge menhirs of Brignogan , Kerloas or Kergariou , which are among the highest of all, should be mentioned here.

Some Allées couvertes are flooded today at high tide , such as those of Kernic, Keroyal and the Dolmen de la Table in front of the Île de Noirmoutier . Other examples are the Allée couverte in the Estuaire de la Quillimadec west of Guissény and the Cairn de Îlot-de-Roc'h-Avel . The menhir of Penloïc near Loctudy at the mouth of the Pont-l'Abbe river protrudes four meters from the silt. The menhir, which was built on firm ground in the Neolithic , is about 0.75 m below today's mean sea level, the base is about 0.50 m lower. It is similar with the menhir of Léhan . They are evidence of the rise in sea levels since the Neolithic, when the plants were not built so close to the sea.
