Allan Rourke (born March 6, 1980 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was under contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League between 2009 and 2010 . During his career he was active for the Carolina Hurricanes , New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers from the National Hockey League , among others .
Career
Rourke began his career in 1996 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers , with whom he won the Central Division and thus the Emms Trophy in his first season . After the defender was convincing in the following season and was able to score 24 points in the 54 games he played , some talent scouts from the NHL became aware of the then 18-year-old. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 , it was the Toronto Maple Leafs who selected the Canadian in the sixth round in 154th position. In the following two years Rourke was able to increase his points yield again. His last season with the Rangers was also his best, the left-handed shooter was used in 72 games and scored 80 points, making him one of the top scorers in the team.
For the 2000/01 season , the defender moved to the National Hockey League to the Toronto Maple Leafs, which initially gave him to their farm team at the time , the St. John's Maple Leafs . In the three years that he was under contract in Toronto, Rourke never got the chance to prove himself in the NHL and played exclusively in the American Hockey League for the St. John's Maple Leafs. In May 2003, the Canadian was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Harold Druken , where he finally played his first 25 NHL games. Most of the time, however, Rourke spent in the AHL with the Lowell Lock Monsters . With the Monsters, the defender came on 116 missions in which he scored 33 points scorer. After the left-handed shooter's contract expired at the end of the 2004/05 season and was not extended, Rourke moved to league rivals New York Islanders .
As with the Hurricanes, the Canadian was mostly on the Islanders' farm team in the American Hockey League, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , and only wore the jersey of the New York franchise 17 times . After another one-year interlude with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2007/08 season , the defender signed a one-year contract with ERC Ingolstadt from the German Ice Hockey League for the 2008/09 season . At the end of January 2009, he left the Ingolstadt team again to join the Austrian first division club EHC Linz . In the fourth play-off quarter-final game against Villacher SV , Rourke tore a ligament in his knee. In the 2009/10 season Rourke played for the Krefeld Penguins in the DEL, where he had received a one-year contract.
