Allen Baron

Allen Baron (* 1927 in Brooklyn ) is an American screenwriter , film and television director , producer and actor . He was best known for the gangster film Explosion des Schweigens (Blast of Silence) from 1961.

Life

Baron became interested in drawing in his youth and studied illustration at the New York School of Visual Arts when he was 19 . He worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for several years . In 1951 he switched to film, first working as a set designer and from 1959 also as a screenwriter and director. In 1961 he directed the largely self-financed low-budget gangster film Explosion des Schweigens , in which he also took on the lead role. The film wasn't particularly successful at the time. Only decades later was it rediscovered by cineastes as a gem of late film noir due to its gloomy aesthetics . Since Baron's career as a movie director failed to materialize, he began working for television in the 1970s. He has directed numerous series, such as episodes by Bronk , Cagney & Lacey , Charlie's Angels and Love Boat . In 1986 Baron finished directing and turned to painting. Today he lives as a painter in Beverly Hills .
