Allen Clayton Davis

Allen Clayton Davis (born August 23, 1927 in Glencliff , Tennessee ) is a former ambassador to the United States .

Life

Allen Davis attended Middle Tennessee State College until 1945 , after which he studied at Duke University until 1947 . From 1951 to 1954 he studied at George Washington University . In 1956 he received his Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) from Georgetown University .

From 1947 to 1953 Davis was in the United States Navy as an aerial surveyor. In 1956 he was accepted into the foreign service. From 1958 to 1960 he was accredited at the embassy in Monrovia . He then worked in the State Department in the economics and Africa departments . In late 1962 he was Counselor to the United States Mission to the United Nations in New York. From 1962 he was accredited in Belgium and Luxembourg for three years and moved to the embassy in Moscow for two years in 1966 . Davis was then Deputy Ambassador to Ouagadougou and Counselor in Algiers for two years . From 1970 to 1973 he was accredited at the embassy in Bern , after which he attended the Army War College for a year . From 1974 to 1977 he was envoy to Dakar and in 1977 he moved to the embassy in Kinshasa as counselor and envoy , where he remained until 1980.

On March 7, 1983, US President Ronald Reagan announced his intention to send Allen Davis to Uganda as ambassador .
