Gordon Robert Beyer

Gordon Robert Beyer (born October 13, 1930 in Chicago , Illinois , † June 4, 2010 ) was a United States Ambassador to Uganda .

Life

Gordon Beyer's parents were Jewel Gordon and Hugo R. Beyer. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1948 and one from Harvard University in 1952. He also studied history (master’s degree) at Northwestern University .

Beyer was used as a Marine in the Korean War. In 1972 he joined the foreign service and was on missions in Thailand , Japan, Somalia and Tanzania. He also worked at the United Nations in New York City .

Gordon Beyer served two years as deputy commander in chief of National War College , six years chairman of the George C. Marshall Foundation, Lexington, Virginia, and chairman of the Democratic Party in Rockbridge County, VA. He wrote a monthly foreign affairs column for the Rockbridge Weekly .
