Linguistic classification |
|
Allgäu is a colloquial collective term for the various regional dialects in the Allgäu . To simplify matters , one speaks of the Allgäu dialect , as the individual regional dialects are nevertheless similar despite certain differences. Allgäu is part of Alemannic and, depending on the region, is closely related to Vorarlberg and Upper Swabian .
Regional dialects
The biggest differences between the individual Allgäu dialects come from the fact that the Allgäu has a distinctive dialect border, the “Wiib-Weib line”. In the part of the Oberallgäu south of Immenstadt , as well as in the Westallgäu up to Wangen and Isny , Niederalemannic is spoken. The northern part of the Oberallgäu district , the entire Unterallgäu district and the Ostallgäu district are linguistically assigned to Swabian and therefore do not belong to the Allgäu dialects (see also the linguistic atlas of Bavarian Swabia ).
In colloquial language , Allgäu is roughly divided into three sub-dialects, which are named after the respective region, whereby the linguistic distribution, among other things through the Lower Alemannic-Swabian dialect border, does not coincide with the borders of those regions or even the districts. Therefore, from a linguistic point of view, there are seven detailed classifications:
Colloquial classification | Linguistic classification |
---|---|
Upper Allgäu | • Lower Alemannic Upper Allgäu • Central part around Immenstadt - Kempten |
Eastern Allgäu | • Ostallgäu • Füssen and the upper Lechrain |
Western Allgäu | • West Allgäu • Lindau and Lake Constance area • Alemannic-Swabian transition area |
