The General mineralogy is the field of mineralogy , in generalized form, detached from each mineralogical processes Mineral examined.

General mineralogy deals with the processes of mineral formation from the melt ( igneous ), from hot solutions ( hydrothermal ), from surface water ( sedimentary ), from other minerals or natural glasses (metamorphic), in soils (pedogenic) or by sublimation of Gases . She examines the two phases of nucleation and crystal growth as well as the thermodynamic phase diagrams .

Finally, she deals with the weathering of minerals and the processes taking place on a microscopic level, such as B. diffusion , dissolution and mechanical destruction.

General mineralogy also deals with the chemical bonds in the minerals , the electronic configuration of their atoms and ions , the crystal structures and the crystal forms . She researches the physical and chemical properties of minerals and the investigation methods based on them.

Investigation methods

General mineralogy uses the results provided by special mineralogy and tries to derive general statements about mineralogical processes from them.
