Aloe argenticauda is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet argenticauda is derived from the Latin words argenteus for 'silvery' and cauda for 'tail' and refers to the silvery bracts on the flower stem.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe argenticauda grows stemless or with short shoots , sprouts and forms dense clumps with up to 50 rosettes . The gray-green leaf blade of the leaves is 30 centimeters long and 3 to 5 centimeters wide. The leaf surface is rough. The dark brown teeth on the leaf margin are 2 millimeters long and 8 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence - rarely a twig is present - reaches a height of 120 centimeters. Most of the flower stem is covered with large silvery bracts. The dense grapes are 25 to 30 centimeters long. The lanceolate, narrowed bracts have a length of 50 to 70 millimeters and are 8 to 12 millimeters wide. The pink to dark red flowers become greenish towards the mouth. They stand on 5 to 12 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 32 to 37 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , they have a diameter of 5 millimeters. Your outer tepals are almost not fused together. The stamens protrude 3 to 4 millimeters and the stylus protrudes 6 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe argenticauda is common in Namibia .

The first description by Hermann Merxmüller and Johan Wilhelm Heinrich Giess was published in 1974.

Aloe argenticauda is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. classified as not endangered in nature.
