Aloe aurelienii is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla plants (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet aurelienii honors Aurélien Castillon, a grandson of Jean-Bernard Castillon .

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe aurelienii grows without a trunk, is solitary or forms up to three offshoots. The 15 to 30 upright, lanceolate-pointed leaves form rosettes . The pale bluish green, occasionally reddish colored leaf blade is 80 to 110 centimeters long and 10 to 12 centimeters wide. The pink-white teeth on the leaf margin are 3 millimeters long and 15 to 20 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence usually consists of three branches and reaches a length of 60 to 70 centimeters. The rather dense, cylindrical-conical grapes are 10 to 15 centimeters long. The pink, pointed bracts have a length of 3 millimeters and are 2.5 millimeters wide. The cylindrical, pink flowers are on 10 to 20 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 25 to 30 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 5 millimeters. Above this they are narrowed to 3 millimeters and finally widened to the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 7 millimeters. The stamens and the stylus do not protrude from the flower.

The fruits are greyish green, depressed spherical berries with a diameter of 18 to 25 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe aurelienii is common in the Middle East of Madagascar on the edges of the Analamaitso forest at heights of 940 meters.
