Aloe craibii is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla plants (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet craibii honors the South African hobby botanist Charles Craib.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe craibii has a short stem and forms small clumps. The upright to prostrate trunks reach a length of up to 16 centimeters and are covered with the remains of dead leaf bases. The upright, fleshy, linear leaves are arranged in two rows. The light yellowish green leaf blade is 21 to 30 centimeters long and 1 to 2.5 centimeters wide. There are occasionally a few scattered white spots on it near the base. The whitish teeth on the cartilaginous, translucent edge of the leaf are up to 1.5 millimeters long and 1 to 2 millimeters apart. The leaf juice is colorless.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 23 to 30 centimeters. The very dense, cylindrical-headed grapes are 4 to 10 centimeters long and 5 to 6 centimeters wide. The bracts have a length of 12 to 35 millimeters. The yellow flowers are on 12 to 20 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 15 to 18 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of about 5 millimeters. In addition, they are slightly widened to the mouth facing upwards. Your outer tepals are almost not fused together. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe craibii is common in the South African province of Mpumalanga in grasslands on rocky south-facing slopes at altitudes of around 1600. The species is only known from the locality of the type.
