Aloe cyrtophylla is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodillaceae (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet cyrtophylla is derived from the Greek words kyrtos for 'bent' and phyllon for 'leaf' and refers to the rolled back leaves of the species.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe cyrtophylla grows trunk-forming and is richly branched from the base. The upright trunks reach a length of up to 30 centimeters. The lanceolate leaves form loose rosettes . Her tip half is strongly rolled back. The dark green leaf blade is 12 to 18 inches long and 2 inches wide. Its tip is pointed. The whitish teeth on the leaf margin are 1.5 millimeters long and are 5 to 6 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 30 to 50 centimeters. The loose grapes are 22 centimeters long. The pointed, whitish bracts have five brown veins and are 10 millimeters long and 7 millimeters wide. The coral-red, then yellowish and green above the flowers stand on 7 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are about 28 millimeters long and narrowed briefly at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 4 millimeters. Above that, they are slightly narrowed and expanded to 7 millimeters. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 9 millimeters. The stamens and the style stick out about 1 millimeter from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe cyrtophylla is widespread in Madagascar on limestone at altitudes of around 1400 meters. The species is only known from the locality of the type.
