Aloe vaotsanda is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet vaotsanda is derived from the common common name of the speciesin Madagascar.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe vaotsanda grows easily and in a stem-forming manner. The upright trunk reaches a length of up to 4 meters and is 15 centimeters thick. It is covered with perennial dead leaves. The 30 to 50 lanceolate, strongly knocked-back leaves form a dense rosette . The green and reddish tinged leaf blade is up to 100 centimeters long and 15 centimeters wide. The stabbing teeth on the edge of the leaf are about 5 to 6 millimeters long and 15 millimeters apart. The leaf juice dries yellowish.

Inflorescences and flowers

The numerous branched inflorescence reaches a length of more or less 50 centimeters. The dense grapes consist of about 50 to 70 single-sided flowers. The triangular narrowed bracts have a length of 7 to 8 millimeters and are 3 millimeters wide. The orange-yellow flowers are on 4 to 6 millimeter long peduncles . They are about 22 millimeters long and rounded at their base. Above the ovary , the flowers are slightly narrowed and finally expanded towards the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of about 13 millimeters. The stamens and the style stick out about 5 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe vaotsanda is widespread in Madagascar in the dry bush on limestone deposits at heights of up to 100 meters.
