Alois Kottmann Prize
The Alois Kottmann Prize for classical vocal violin playing is awarded to outstanding international violinists. The award of the culture prize takes place in cooperation with the city of Frankfurt am Main . The competition takes place annually in May / June as part of the International Music Days Hessen Main-Taunus Hofheim in Hofheim am Taunus , Hesse . The award ceremony takes place after the competition at a separate time by the Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main in the representative Limpurg Hall of the Römer town hall in Frankfurt .
history
The Alois Kottmann Prize was founded in 2001. It bears the name of its founder, the German violinist and university lecturer Alois Kottmann .
In the first few years of the competition, only one winner was determined, and special prizes were also awarded. This changed from 2005, when there were two winners for the first time. In 2006 and 2007, the title Special Recognition was also awarded. In 2007, Sabrina-Vivian Höpcker (Germany) was also awarded the so far unique Bach Prize of the City of Hofheim am Taunus as part of the competition . In 2010, the Alois Kottmann Prize was presented in the form of a 1st and 2nd prize, and in addition to the special prizes also a distinction of honorable recognition was awarded.
target
The culture prize serves to promote the violin tradition of Carl Flesch , which was shaped in Frankfurt am Main and which so far had its most important representatives in Alma Moodie and Max Rostal . When awarding the prize, particular emphasis is placed on classical discipline, an artistic and stylistic penetration of the performed works and a high pitch of the tone that characterizes and characterizes the personality.
“ You can recognize important violinists by their tone, but this is often no longer possible with youngsters today. What you hear from them is played brilliantly, but without any recognizable personality. The violin was invented because humans can also sing on it. "
Doping
The prize is endowed with 3,000 euros. The award-winning participants each receive a silver coin, partly individually minted for the winner, and a certificate. In addition, special prizes and awards may be given.
Conditions of participation
Participation is internationally open to violinists, there is no age limit. In the competition, compulsory pieces that were announced one year earlier and that change annually must be performed. Playing by heart is neither required nor specially rated. The registration deadline is always in April.
jury
The jury is made up of Margit Neubauer (vocals), Alois Kottmann (violin, namesake and donor of the prize) and Boris Kottmann (violin). In 2015 the Kammersängerin Margit Neubauer was represented by her husband, the Kammersängerin Franz Mayer, due to other obligations.
