Alois Faller

Alois Faller (born January 8, 1812 in Höllsteig , † August 14, 1882 in New York City ) was a German-American lawyer, revolutionary and parliamentarian.

Alois Faller was the son of the owner of what is now known as Hofgut Sternen, the Zum Sternen inn in Höllental . He attended grammar school in Freiburg im Breisgau and studied law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg as well as in Gießen, Göttingen and Heidelberg . In 1832 he became a member of the Corps Suevia Freiburg . On 23 November 1837 he was in Heidelberg summa cum laude to the Dr. jur. PhD; in the same year he had already passed his law exam and had been admitted as a legal intern. In 1840 he initially worked in Tauberbischofsheim . In 1845 he was court attorney in Freiburg im Breisgau. He was a member of the Freiburg People's Association , election commissioner and then a member of the electoral district VII (Freiburg City Office, Freiburg Land Office, Breisach) to the Baden Constituent Assembly of 1849 .

After the revolution was put down, he was one of 18 of 68 Baden MPs who emigrated to the USA. He was initially a Latin Farmer in St. Clair County (Illinois) . From 1860 until his death he was an attorney for the German Legal Aid Society in New York City.

He was married to Clara Margarethe, b. Weigel, a niece of Carl Joseph Anton Mittermaier . The couple had a daughter, Ida.

Alois Faller was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx in the family grave of German-American entrepreneur Carl Hauselt .
