Alois Pompanin

Alois Pompanin (* 1889 in Cortina d'Ampezzo , Austria-Hungary ; † June 30, 1966 in Brixen , South Tyrol ) was a Roman Catholic priest and provost . From 1933 to 1952 he was vicar general of the diocese of Brixen .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bozen, Alois Pompanin studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University . After completing his doctorate at the University of Innsbruck , he was ordained a priest in 1915 and celebrated his first Mass in the Ahrntal . After his time as chaplain in Terenten , Cortina and Brixen, he worked at the seminary in Brixen. In 1933, Bishop Johannes Geisler was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen. Pompanin was a supporter of the option in South Tyrol for the German Empire, but also an opponent of the Nazis' influence in church matters.
