Alois Wildenauer

Alois Wildenauer (born April 29, 1877 in Vienna ; † July 24, 1967 ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman, mountaineer , cave researcher and non-fiction author.

Life

Alois Wildenauer, child of simple parents, was born in Vienna's 4th district. As a scholarship holder , he attended the Hollabrunn boys' seminar . On July 25, 1900, he was ordained a priest and then employed as a cooperator ( chaplain ) in Lichtenwörth near Wiener Neustadt. At the same time he studied history and German at the University of Vienna . In July 1906 he received his doctorate in philosophy. From 1911 to 1921 he was in charge of the Grünbach am Schneeberg parish and explored numerous climbing routes on the Hohe Wand in his free time . He was then briefly transferred to Wiener Neustadt and then became provost of the Votive Church . A little later he was appointed prelate and later cathedral custodian .

In 1957 he suffered a stroke, the consequences of which he suffered until his death.

Wildenauer was president of the Austrian Tourist Club and a member of numerous other alpine associations. As a mountaineer, he is considered to be the developer of the Hohe Wand.

Wildenauer was Honorary President of the Austrian Tourist Club , Honorary Member of the Austrian Alpine Club , Honorary Doctor of the University of Vienna and Honorary Member of the Catholic Academic Association Danubia in the Austrian Cartel Association as well as the holder of the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
