Alois Winkler (sculptor)
Alois Winkler (born June 21, 1848 in Weerberg ; † April 7, 1931 in Schwaz ) was an Austrian sculptor .
Life
Alois Winkler was born as the son of Vinzenz Winkler and Anna Schlögl at the Oberaigen farm in Weerberg. With the support of his uncle, who was a pastor in Vomp , he came to the drawing school attached to the Innsbruck Realschule under the direction of Michael Stolz at the age of 19 . Winkler's talent for sculpture proudly recognized and from 1869 had him work in his workshop. After a while, Winkler returned to Weerberg, then worked again at Stolz and then for a few months at Franz Xaver Pendl in Algund . After returning to Innsbruck, he worked for Dominikus Trenkwalder for around six years . In 1882 he opened his own workshop in Pradl . Winkler was a busy sculptor, creating religious sculptures and altars in historicist styles for churches throughout Tyrol and beyond.
