Russell recorded part of Alone Together with her band , which includes guitarist Matt Munisteri , pianist Mark Shane, bassist Tal Ronen and drummer Mark McLean. reception

The album received a Grammy nomination in 2019 for Best Jazz Vocal Album .

Georg Waßmuth ( SWR ) wrote: “With her album Alone Together , Catherine Russell once again proves her mastery. She and her team prepared the publication down to the smallest detail. The band sits on the front edge of the chair and delivers every song with a gorgeous rhythm. And the famous Catherine Russell is presented on a silver platter. "

The JazzTimes critic wrote: “Without indulging in sentimentality, it captures the spirit of the epoch from which the pieces she sings emerged. Part of the timeless yet vintage quality of their music results from their fine-grained voice and a blues sensitivity that is reminiscent of Dinah Washington and Helen Humes . “What stands out most about the album is its reluctance. Alone Together offers a welcome reminder that no one else in jazz does what it does, and that without her the scene would be immeasurably poorer.

Scott Yanow wrote in Syncopated Times, “Russell has a warm and eclectic voice, a wide range of tones and emotions, and the ability to place notes perfectly. Like the great Rebecca Kilgore , her phrasing always fluctuates , no matter the tempo, she doesn't do much, and her improvisation is subtle yet quite effective. ”According to the author,“ You Turned the Tables on Me, ”“ Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby "," Shake Down the Stars "," He May Be Your Dog But He's Wearing My Collar "," Errand Girl for Rhythm "and" You Can't Pull the Wool Over My Eyes ". Throughout the set, Catherine Russell does not reinvent the songs, but joyfully elevates them and contributes to their timelessness.

James Hale gave the album four stars on Down Beat and praised it: "With an infallible ear for great material and a voice that sounds timeless, Russell makes up for lost time".
