Matt Munisteri

Matthew "Matt" Munisteri (* in Brooklyn ) is an American musician ( banjo , guitar , vocals ) and songwriter who works in the spectrum of blues , folk and jazz .

Munisteri started playing the banjo at the age of nine and was early involved with country and ragtime guitar, blues, tin pan alley songs and early jazz. After graduating from Brown University in Providence , he returned to Brooklyn and initially began performing with French musette music and gypsy jazz . For four years he was guitarist and songwriter in the band The Flying Neutrinos around the singer Ingrid Lucia. He worked as musical director for their album The Hotel Child (2000); the album, produced by Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmitt, rose to number 6 on the Billboard Jazz Charts. Since the early 2000s he has been working in a duo with Will Holshouser and with trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso ( Blue Roof Blues: A Love Letter to New Orleans , 2006). With his own band Brock Mumford - named after the guitarist in the Buddy Bolden -Band - he explored Willard Robison's repertoire and toured Europe.

Since 2004 he has also been the musical accompanist of Rachelle Garniez , both on her albums and on the concert stage. Munisteri has also worked with Holly Cole , Gina Leishman , Madeleine Peyroux , Jimmy Scott , Michael Blake , Frank Vignola and Greg Cohen . He has performed in the concert series Jazz at Lincoln Center with Mark O'Connor's Hot Swing, in Avery Fisher Hall with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra , in Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops Orchestra and with Steven Bernstein's Millennial Territory Orchestra and Vince Giordano's Nighthawks . He was a key soloist on Loudon Wainwright's album High Wide and Handsome - The Charlie Poole Project , which won a Grammy in 2010 . He has also appeared with Kenny Davern , Ed Polcer , Jenny Scheinman , Wycliffe Gordon , with Geoff Muldaur's Futuristic Ensemble and with Holshouser's Musette Explosion . He also appeared several times in the NPR telecast A Prairie Home Companion on. Since 2010 he has formed The Earregulars with Pete Martinez (clarinet), Harvey Tibbs (trombone) and Neil Miner (bass) .

Munisteri's music can also be heard in some Hollywood movie soundtracks such as Eve and the Last Gentleman (1999), Aviator , Forrester - Found! von 2000 (in which he can also be seen as a guitarist) or Ghost World (2001). Tom Lord lists 61 Munisteri studio recordings between 1998 and 2015.
