Aloys Dreyer (born September 3, 1861 in Landshut , † September 17, 1938 in Munich ; also Alois Dreyer ) was a Bavarian teacher, writer and librarian .

Life

Aloys Dreyer attended the teachers' seminar in Straubing and practiced the profession of elementary school teacher for almost 20 years, first from 1880 in Vilsheim , from 1884 in Passau . During his time in Passau he was a theater advisor for the “Passauer Zeitung” and wrote numerous folk plays, some of which were set to music by well-known composers, including Josef Bill and Simon Breu .

In 1898, 37-year-old Dreyer began studying German, philosophy, history, art history and geography in Munich, which he completed in 1903 with a dissertation on Franz von Kobell with a doctorate. He never returned to the teaching profession. From 1904 until his retirement in 1930, Dreyer headed the central library of the German and Austrian Alpine Association . During this time he expanded it into one of the largest specialist libraries in the Alps. Like many alpinists in the interwar period, Dreyer was close to nationalistic and anti-Semitic ideas.

In addition to his work as a librarian, Dreyer was a prolific writer throughout his life. He wrote and published over thirty plays, as well as dialect poetry and books on local, art and literary-historical topics as well as alpinism: for example Karl Stieler , the Bavarian highland poet (1905), on the history of the Munich poets' association " The Crocodiles " (1912 ), The Sendlinger Murder Christmas in History, Legend and Poetry (1906) and Franz Pocci , the poet, artist and childhood friend (1907). He was also the chairman of the Münchner Mundart-Dichterbund, which included Wilhelm Dusch , Fritz Druckseis , Max Hofmann , Sepp Mitterer, Elise Beck and Anni Schäfer.
