Aloys Jousten (born November 2, 1937 in Sankt Vith ) is a Belgian bishop .

Life

After high school in Saint Vith Aloys Jousten studied in Sint-Truiden and in the seminary of Liege . He was ordained a priest on July 8, 1962 . He received his doctorate in 1966 from the Catholic University of Leuven .

In 1964 Jousten became a professor in the Liège seminary. In 1975 he became headmaster of the secondary school for girls, Heidberg Institute in Eupen and from 1970 to 1985 he was chaplain in Amel . In 1985 he became dean of Sankt Vith and episcopal vicar for the German-speaking area of the diocese of Liège. In 1990 he became dean of Eupen.

On May 9, 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed Jousten Bishop of Liege . He received his episcopal ordination on June 3 of the same year from Godfried Cardinal Danneels , Archbishop of Mechlin-Brussels . Co-consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium, Pier Luigi Celata , the Old Bishops of Liège, Guillaume-Marie van Zuylen and Albert Houssiau , and the Bishop of Hasselt , Paul Schruers .

On November 2, 2012, Bishop Jousten offered the Pope his resignation, which Pope Francis accepted on May 31, 2013.
